When:       Thursday, 1/9/2020;  7:15 am – 9:00 am

Where:      Skagit Transit Center, Community Room

                   105 E. Kincaid, Mount Vernon, WA  98273

Presentation Overview:

This session will help HR professionals understand the current local labor market and will provide them with information about how to find and use data to inform workforce strategy.

With local unemployment rates getting comfortable at historic lows, employers are experiencing challenges related to a strong labor market. This presentation explores local labor market conditions including industry employment trends, regional wage growth, commuting patterns, employment projections and more. Anneliese draws from publicly available data and will also provide some information about where labor market data can be found as well as tips about how to use (and avoid misusing) labor market information.

About the Speaker:

Anneliese Vance-Sherman has served as a regional labor economist with the Employment Security Department since February 2010. The region she covers includes
Skagit, Island, San Juan, Whatcom, Snohomish and King Counties. Anneliese works closely with public and private sector Washingtonians, providing local labor market intelligence to help inform strategic decision-making.

Anneliese has a Ph.D. in economic geography and a master’s degree in economics both from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from SUNY Geneseo.
