Burn Bright--Learning to Sustain Your Flame

Presented by: Brooke Kiener

"Burnout" has become a popular umbrella term for whatever distresses people in their work. But understanding the research behind this "occupational phenomenom" can help us design our lives so that we avoid the exhaustion, cynicism, and inefficacy that leads to burn out. With mindfulness and attention we learn to sustain our flame and burn bright for the people and places we care most about.

Learning  Objectives:

  • Understand the three elements of the burnout construct and how to combat them.
  • Understand the three components of burnout and recognize them in action.
  • Understand the stress response system and its impact on burnout.
  • Understand the difference between time management and energy management.

Presenter's Bio:

Brooke Kiener is the Dean for the School of Continuing Studies at Whitworth University, where she also served as Associate Provost and as a tenured member of the theatre faculty.  She is a certified life and leadership coach, and the founder of Brooke Kiener Coaching, providing coaching programs that build confidence, clarity, and connection.  She is the creator and instructor for Elevate–Whitworth’s Leadership Certificate for Women, and is the board chair for Spokane Arts.
