Employment Law Update 2023

Washington employment law update covering new laws and proposed changes affecting employers in Washington state.  This discussion will include COVID-19 related laws and litigation, the 2022 Silenced No More Act, proposed rules affecting the Washington Paid Family and Medical Leave, Washington workplace safety rules, arbitration and arbitrability of claims, wage and hour issues, and recent determinations, settlement and/or awards in employment discrimination/retaliation claims. 

This session will help you be aware of coming changes and emerging trends to better address workplace issues, avoid problems, and better ensure legal compliance.

    Presenter's Bio:

    David Bratz, Managing Director at LeGros Buchanan & Paul

    David has been with LeGros Buchanan & Paul since 1991 and currently serves as the Firm's managing director. He represents maritime and non-maritime employers in employment disputes in state and federal courts and in various administrative agencies, such as the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Washington Human Rights Commission. David regularly consults with employers in risk management and employment practices, and frequently conducts anti-harassment and human resources training for management and supervisory personnel of the Firm's employer clients. David has been named a Washington Super Lawyer for several years. He frequently speaks to employer and maritime groups on risk management and employment law issues, and presents at CLEs as well.

    Carey M.E. Gephart, Director at LeGros Buchanan & Paul 

    Carey has been with LeGros Buchanan & Paul since 2006.  She represents both maritime and non-maritime employers in all aspects of employment disputes including wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, accommodation, retaliation and other related claims in state and federal courts, and federal and state agencies (including the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Washington Human Rights Commission, the Seattle Office for Civil Rights and the Alaska State Commission for Human Rights).  Carey’s practice also includes counseling and advising clients on personnel policies and practice, and in-house training and consultation on a variety of labor and employment related issues including anti-harassment and discrimination.
