About the Speakers:

Michael H. Church focuses his practice on representing management in all aspects of employment law, including, defending class and collective actions, workplace investigations, wage and hour claims, wrongful discharge, trade secret violations, discrimination claims, and violations of non-compete and non-solicitation agreements. 

Michael regularly practices in federal and state courts, including appellate courts, and before federal and state regulatory agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Department of Labor.

Michael is very active in the Spokane community as General Counsel for the Spokane Home Builders Association, General Counsel for Goodwill Industries of the Inland Northwest and Past President of Spokane Rotary Club #21 (current member, chair of the President's Advisory Council and chair of the Human Resources Committee). He also serves on the Board of Directors for Goodwill Industries of the Inland Northwest, and as a Board Member and Past President of the Inland Northwest Society of Human Resource Managers (INSHRM). Michael currently serves as the Legislative Affairs Director for WA State SHRM. 


Alice Riethman, Esq. SHRM-CP, is an employment attorney, human resources professional, and former employment litigator, located in beautiful Spokane, Washington where her practice is dedicated to working with employers to provide essential and timely workplace training, consulting, and compliance assistance to address critical workplace issues. Alice continues to serve New Mexico clients and collaborates locally with attorney Michael Church of Stamper Rubens, P.S. to assist Washington employers.

Previously, Alice lived in Northern Virginia and worked independently and with a Washington, DC-based law firm to provide human resources consulting leadership and expertise. Before relocating to the DC area, Alice built an employer counseling practice in Albuquerque, NM devoted to working with organizations on workplace compliance issues and streamlining and improving the employer/employee relationship. Alice brings experience in employment litigation (representing both employers and employees) as well as management-side labor matters. Prior to entering the legal field, she worked in human resources specializing in the areas of state and federal regulatory compliance (including multi-state compliance matters, oversight of Affirmative Action Plans, Equal Employment Opportunity Programs, USERRA, and the Family and Medical Leave Act) and corporate training. 

Alice is licensed to practice law in Washington and New Mexico.

Alice is a longtime SHRM volunteer leader. She currently serves as a volunteer on the WA State SHRM Legislative Affairs Committee. Previously Alice served on the SHRM Labor Relations Special Expertise Panel from 2016 through 2020 and on the SHRM New Mexico State Council as Legislative Director from 2009 through 2015.

Alice is an enthusiastic local, state, and national speaker in the areas of employment law, human resources, and public policy. As the spouse of an active-duty Air Force pilot, Alice is also a passionate and knowledgeable advocate on matters related to the employment and licensure of military spouses.
