Accounting Technician (Payroll)
The City of Sedro-Woolley is accepting applications for an Accounting Technician (Payroll) in the Finance Department.
This full-time, non-exempt position is represented by the AFSCME union and works under the direction of the Finance Director and Deputy Clerk. The Accounting Technician (Payroll) is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all City employees, elected officials, appointed officials, volunteers, and caretakers. Key responsibilities include conducting the semi-monthly payroll process, reviewing employee hours and wage adjustments, maintaining payroll codes and timekeeping schedules, preparing tax and benefit payments, filing state and federal payroll reports, and ensuring proper retention and confidentiality of payroll information.
The position also coordinates benefit-related deductions, supports benefit enrollments and reconciliations, and assists with maintaining employee leave balances in compliance with City policy, state and federal regulations, and collective bargaining agreements. Additional duties include providing back-up support at the front counter and assisting with other Finance Department functions as needed.
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent and at least two (2) years of increasingly responsible payroll experience. The position requires strong computer skills, proficiency with payroll systems, knowledge of governmental accounting principles, and the ability to perform highly accurate work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
